The unique self-centering idler wheel always maintains perfect alignment with motor shaft and inner platter hub. All factory parts are present. No company is currently making an idler turntable. The tonearm rest is not original but works. The 53-year-old virgin aluminum platter can be high speed buffed to a beautiful very mirror shine for showpiece that you proud of. The Gates and gray were 100 made in USA by skilled designers craftsmen.

No cartridge is included. I am unable to test with a record. With one slide-in cartridge mount it will accept the GE VR a swivel top speed indicator. Very low noise is achieved through a unique hub drive where the idler contacts inner 7 with motor rotating at only 600 rpm as opposed to standard spins 1800 and outer rim under platter.

The rubber motor mounts are in good condition. The motor is strong and spins quietly when silent illuminated mercury switch activated platter at three different speeds black ball lever easily dropped into one of speed slots. It has the famous ash land motor, same company that made all apex studio tape recorder motors.

This lower rpm helps to keep the noise level a minimum. The Gates cb 500 came from factory with this famous indestructible long gray viscous damped uni-pivot tonearm as standard equipment. The tone arm needs new wiring since it was cut short, but this is very easy to do tonearm completely open from underneath.

The strong factory baked enamel paint looks very good but has a few small nicks. The entire x top chassis of this turntable is made one piece cast and intricately molded aluminum thick.

No other service or testing has been done.

No base is included. The CB-500 has a platter and includes factory mounted famous rare gray model 108 viscous damped uni-pivot tonearm 700 value alone.

This is the legendary, hard to find Gates 17 cb-5 with gray tonearm circa I am unable confirm that all functions are at factory specifications and it will undoubtedly benefit further from servicing, therefore, like electronics of age must sell as for parts or repair. Selling prices for the cb 500 and gray tonearm have doubled in last few years are increasing as remaining supplies dwindling. This Gates CB-500 has been thoroughly cleaned and lubricated.
