Review HEATHKIT Sweep marker Generator Model

The Heathkit IG-57 Sweep-Marker Generator (model IG-57A) is a versatile and essential test instrument for radio amateurs and electronics enthusiasts. This generator produces a high-quality, adjustable, and calibrated marker signal that can be used to identify the carrier frequency in various types of radio communications.

The IG-57A is housed in a compact, sturdy, and well-designed metal chassis, measuring approximately 11.5 inches long, 8 inches wide, and 2 inches tall. The front panel is user-friendly, with a large, clear, and easily readable dial for adjusting the marker frequency. The dial ranges from 100 kHz to 30 MHz, providing a broad coverage for various radio applications.

One of the most notable features of the IG-57A is its accuracy and calibration. This generator is factory calibrated and comes with an NIST-traceable calibration certificate. It also has a built-in frequency stability of 2 ppm, ensuring consistent and reliable marker signal output.

The IG-57A offers multiple output options to cater to various test requirements. It has both an audio and a visual output. The audio output can be connected to a speaker or headphones, providing an audible marker tone. The visual output consists of a bright and easily visible red LED marker, which can be connected to a oscilloscope or a frequency counter for precise frequency measurement.

The generator also includes an adjustable marker amplitude control, allowing users to set the marker level to their preference. This feature is particularly useful when working with sensitive test equipment or when trying to distinguish weak signals from the marker tone.

The IG-57A is powered by a standard 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz input, making it compatible with various power sources around the world. It also features a built-in voltage regulator to ensure stable power supply to the generator circuitry.

In summary, the Heathkit IG-57 Sweep-Marker Generator (model IG-57A) is a high-performance and versatile test instrument designed for radio amateurs and electronics enthusiasts. With its accurate and calibrated marker signal, multiple output options, and user-friendly design, the IG-57A is an indispensable tool for any lab or workshop.

The Heathkit IG-57 Sweep-Marker Generator (IG-57 and IG-57A) is an electronic test instrument designed to generate a calibrated audio frequency sweep for use in testing and troubleshooting various types of equipment, particularly radio receivers and oscilloscopes. Ultimately, the decision to purchase a Heathkit IG-57 or IG-57A should be based on your specific requirements, budget, and expertise level. If you have the need for high-precision test equipment and the budget to invest in it, then the Heathkit IG-57 or IG-57A is an excellent choice.

Details:

Includes a complete new 're-issue' copy of the manual. There are 17 internal standard marker frequencies. An external marker can also be attached via a BNC connector for custom frequency. It looks like there is plenty of room for a different AC connector.

You can see the RF out change when various markers were selected. I suggest the latter so any standard AC cord can be used in future. RF outputs better than 500 MTV on all bands. Up to six markers can appear simultaneously in the RF output.

There are three band outputs for RF: Lo - 2.5 to 5.5 MHz, Medium 38 49 and High 64 72 MHz. The unit has been tested for 'RF Out' but not set up in a sweep environment. The unit is in very good cosmetic condition and has no user modifications or added holes.
